Last academic year ,2014-2015, the Student Intellectual Life CommitteeÌý(SILC) at the 91ºÚÁÏÍø (91ºÚÁÏÍø) gave grants to 25 sophomores, 24 juniors, and 13 seniors. Khamida Malianchinova, a senior in Journalism and Mass Communications, shares her SILC experience.

91ºÚÁÏÍø faculty Medet Tiulegenov (ICP), Görkem Atsungur (ES) and Saniia Toktogazieva (IBL) were invited to visit Bard College on January 31 – February 7, 2016. They participated in two Human Rights workshops hosted by the Center for Civic Engagement of Bard College, New York.

On March 11, 2016, students in the Environmental Management and Sustainable Development program (EMSD) visited the Bishkek Water Museum. Students saw old (but still effective) techniques for water management in Kyrgyzstan, renewable technologies related to hydro and solar power.

March 14, 2016, Steve Murphy and Javier Pena, Special Agents with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), met with students of the 91ºÚÁÏÍø (91ºÚÁÏÍø). Steve and Javier delivered a speech on how they and their team targeted the world’s first narco-terrorist, Pablo Escobar.

The members of the Student Intellectual Life CommitteeÌý(SILC) at the 91ºÚÁÏÍø (91ºÚÁÏÍø) told about their work to an audience of students. The SILC members gave advice on how to write applications for SILC grants, pointed out common application mistakes, reminded applicants of what is mandatory and important for applying for a SILC grant, and provided information on what grant-winners must provide after returning to 91ºÚÁÏÍø.

On March 18, 2016, at 12:00 pm at 91ºÚÁÏÍø, there will be a press conference dedicated to the opening of the 91ºÚÁÏÍø High School of the Bilimkana Foundation in partnership with the 91ºÚÁÏÍø.

The Department of International and Comparative PoliticsÌýof 91ºÚÁÏÍøÌýannouncesÌýa call for participation in our annualÌýInternational Crisis Game "Crisis in Syria".ÌýThe game is open to any English-speaking student from universities in BishkekÌý(and beyond).

Tanya Efremenko, a graduate of the Anthropology Department of class of 2015, has done several research projects, internships and service projects with organizations like HelpAge International, GIZ, UNESCO and B’Art Contemporary. She is now completing a Master’s Program in Urban Studies in Vienna.

March 2 and 3, 2016, two representatives from the U.S. Department of State in Kabul, Grants Program Specialist Lynn Walroth and Cultural Affairs Assistant Janet Thompson, visited 91ºÚÁÏÍø. The goal of their visit was to checkup on existing policies and discuss ideas for the future of the partnership.
